Envirolab Group is pleased to announce Envirolab Services Sydney has extended its scope of NATA accreditation for drugs of abuse collected on wipes, swabs and filters using the LC-MSMS method of analysis. This accomplishment adds to the Sydney lab’s scope of accreditation for analytes such as Methamphetamines, MDMA and associated precursors.

A special thanks to Phalak, An and the LC-MSMS team at the Sydney lab.

Following a satisfactory technical review of the methods and associated data by NATA, the following were added to the Envirolab Sydney scope on Thursday, 4th February 2021:

Acetylfentanyl, Cannabidiol (CBD), Cannabinol (CBN), Cocaine; Δ9-Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), Fentanyl, gamma-Butyrolactone (GBL), gamma-Hydroxybutyric acid (GHB), Heroin, Norbuprenorphine and N, N-Dimethyltryptamine (DMT).

The additional compounds include some recognisable cannabinoids as well as other familiar class A drugs. However, the list also includes the psychoactive substances DMT, GBL and GMB, which are less familiar. The quantitation limits range from 0.02-0.2µg.

Significance of NATA Accreditation in laboratory testing services

NATA Accreditation provides independent assurance of technical competence through a proven network of best practice industry experts. This accreditation is highly regarded as it formally recognises facilities across a range of industries that provide excellent standards of service in reliability, safety and efficiency in technical services.

The accreditation is granted to laboratories in compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 (2017) and the service-specific criteria, which is determined via an on-site assessment of resources, procedures, and documentation. As part of gaining accreditation, Envirolab Services Sydney was required to demonstrate competency in performing all activities included within the concerned class or field of accreditation.
