Air Quality and Gas Testing

Pollutants or contaminants in the air from dust, fumes and vapours may be common in workplaces, homes, schools, recreational and public buildings. However, if not properly managed, the air quality of indoor environments can affect the health, comfort and productivity of employees and general building occupants.

Envirolab is NATA Accredited for a range of VOCs, sulphur compounds, fixed and permanent gases and other compounds. If you cannot find the compound you are wanting to analyse, please contact us for further technical advice.

Check out our range of available air and gas testing below!

Volatile Organic Compounds

VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) are organic chemicals that evaporate as gases or vapours from particular solids and wastes. Household and commercial products, office equipment, building equipment and furnishings may be sources of VOCs. Therefore, concentrations of VOCs may be higher in indoor air than outdoor air.

Testing for VOCs at Envirolab

Envirolab has specialist expertise in assessing VOCs under the following test methods:

  • VOCs in landfill gas and stack emissions by USEPA Method 18

  • VOCs in ambient air collected on thermal desorption tubes, USEPA TO17

  • VOCs in ambient air collected in Summa Canisers, USEPA TO15

Our team at Envirolab will respond in a timely manner, while maintaining the highest quality available. Contact us today and ask us how we can assist you with air quality testing.

Stack Emission Testing

Envirolab provides stack testing and stationary source emission testing services. Supported by a strong and dedicated team of professionals and advanced technology, we can assist you with:

  • Carbon Monoxide (CO), Gaseous and particulate Fluoride

  • Hexavalent Chromium

  • Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S), Total Reduced Sulphur, Halides and Halogens (Dioxins, SVOC and Co - Planar PCB's are sub-contracted)

  • Metals

  • Nitrogen oxides (NOx)

  • Sulphur dioxide (SO2), Sulphur trioxide (SO3) and sulphuric acid mist (H2SO4)

  • Total Suspended Particulates (TSP)

  • Permanent and light gases

  • VOCs

Ozone Precursors

Ozone precursors, nitrogen oxides (NOx) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) react in the atmosphere with solar ultraviolet (UV) radiation to produce ground-level ozone (O3), which may negatively impact plants and animals.

In urban areas, hydrocarbons from incinerators and vehicle exhaust from traffic are another contributor to air pollution.

Laboratory Testing for Ozone Precursors at Envirolab

Monitor ozone precursors in ambient air and landfill gas with the expertise at one of our NATA Accredited laboratories of Envirolab. By contacting us today, we will assist you in determining the best sample method for your testing needs.

Speciated Sulfur

While an essential element of living matter (existent in amino acids and proteins), the presence of sulfur in the air may be due to compounds generated and emitted during industrial and mechanical processes - Fossil fuel combustion, ore smelting and petroleum refining can be toxic at elevated concentrations. Sulfur is associated with an unpleasant odour.

Therefore within industry and for general wellbeing, monitoring sulphur in the air assists in maintaining work safety practices as well as protecting the environment and health.

Sulfur Speciation Testing at Envirolab

Envirolab is specialised in the testing of hazardous substances, such as sulphur compounds in the air. Our laboratories are NATA Accredited, so you can be certain that our contamination testing services are conducted in strict accordance with industry standards and guidelines.

Timely and accurate results from Envirolab will also ensure that you have the information you need. Contact us today for air pollutant testing.

Vapour Intrusion

Monitoring airborne vapour concentrations is a high priority for wellbeing. Vapour intrusion occurs when volatile chemicals in groundwater and soil emit vapours that migrate to basements or foundations of buildings, ambient air and confined spaces. Within workplaces or as a result of general industrial activity, fugitive emissions are gases that leak or are vented from pressurised equipment due to leaks and other unintended operations.

The potential risk to health from this type of exposure is significant, therefore hazardous areas should be regularly or in some circumstances, permanently tested as part of site assessment and safety procedure for where exposure to vapours is regarded as a risk factor.

Scientific Testing for Air Contamination at Envirolab

Vapour sampling is most reliable where the conditions under which the samples are collected are the same as the conditions under which exposure may occur. Depending on the circumstances, it may be appropriate to use Summa Canisters, Tedlar bags, Thermal desorption tubes or gas bombs.

While taking an air sample for air quality testing is not easy, you will be supported by the knowledge and technical expertise of Envirolab. Our services cover a full range of air sampling methodology and equipment to test for the presence of volatile organic compounds.
