MPL Laboratories Extends NATA Accreditation to Respirable Crystalline Silica on Filters by XRD

Envirolab Group is pleased to announce our Perth laboratory, MPL Laboratories, has further extended its scope of NATA accreditation to include the analysis of Respirable Crystalline Silica (RCS) on filters using the X-ray diffraction (XRD) technique.

The news of successful accreditation with the nationally recognised testing body NATA has been greatly anticipated by Envirolab after extensive method development and validation.

The XRD technique is less prone to interferences from complex mineral samples than the alternative technique of FTIR, interferences that may affect limits of reporting for the latter technique. Hence, more informed decisions can be made, particularly for industrial hygienists and other public health professionals who are monitoring workers’ exposure.

The company is extremely pleased to have achieved the NATA accreditation and takes this opportunity to extend a special thanks to Tom, Giovanni and other team members who were involved.

Following a satisfactory technical review of the methods and associated data by NATA, the following have been added to MPL Laboratories’ scope of accreditation:

Service Determination
Analysis for respirable crystalline silica (RCS) α-Quartz; Cristobalite

A detailed scope of accreditation of MPL Laboratories can also be found in the NATA website directory

Significance of NATA Accreditation in laboratory testing services

NATA Accreditation provides independent assurance of technical competence through a proven network of best practice industry experts. This accreditation is highly regarded as it formally recognises facilities across a range of industries that provide excellent standards of service in reliability, safety and efficiency in technical services.

The accreditation is granted to laboratories in compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 (2017) and the service-specific criteria, which is determined via an on-site assessment of resources, procedures, and documentation. As part of gaining accreditation, MPL Laboratories was required to demonstrate competency in performing all activities included within the concerned class or field of accreditation.
